Homeless LocalLink Pre Launch

We are Appy to Announce ...

For some time now Homeless Pembrokeshire/ Carmarthenshire have been working on a special project, quietly and diligently. Imagine this, a service that was available to everyone, any time of the day, always active and with a single purpose, to help people who may need help with homelessness.

But which people? For us, this means 3 main groups;

  • People who are Homeless or about to be
  • Concerned others, family, friends, or members of the public who want to help
  • Support workers and volunteers with organisations who want to help.

We started to think about each of these groups, and what could we do to assist them in a coherent and joined up way. Obviously this is a big question, and its complicated, we will not bore you with the detail. What we came up with was an App and we call it Homeless LocalLink.

Homeless LocalLink was developed in house by Homeless Pembrokeshire/ Carmarthenshire by Amanda and William. The App is a one stop shop for people who need our services directly, concerned citizens and organisational professionals. It will;

  • List details of relevant services and how to contact them
  • List vital information on how to survive on the streets
  • Connect professionals together
  • Allow real time reporting of what's happening on the streets
  • List properties and rooms for rent.

We are in the process of finalising the initial data input, and expect to be in a position to make Homeless LocalLink available very shortly. So its pretty much done and ready to rock. However, whilst the App itself is done, and will shortly be ready for primetime, we need funds to launch it. Its not cheap to run an App such as this and we are looking for sponsors and funders to support it. We have some fundraising events coming up (more about that soon) and were initially hoping to launch the APP officially at one of those events later this summer. That was the plan, but we thought that's too long, its ready now.

Lions

We spoke to our good friends, The Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Lions Club, who have been steadfast supporters of what we do for some time now. We told them about our project, we showed them Homeless LocalLink, and we talked about its use and why we think its important. They agreed, and the next day they promised to donate the necessary funding to "pre-launch" the App, to allow us to get it in wild ASAP, until further funding can kick in and take over. This was amazing news and we are thrilled to be able to announce it to you.

Within the next week we will make Homeless Local link available to download, and start telling you more about how to use it, and what it can do to help.

What Month is It? Its Vanuary!

Vanuary, Thanks GRS Motor Group

What month is it? Its Vanuary!

This is the big, huge announcement, teased over the last few days. For over Three and half years now, GRS motor Group in Milford Haven, have supplied Homeless Pembrokeshire with a van free of charge. Today which is the 11th of Vanuary, GRS renewed its pledge to Homeless Pembrokeshire and to all the people of Pembrokeshire by supplying a brand new, shiny Berlingo Van. Its white and just gorgeous. This act of altruistic generosity was in itself enormous and Steve, Jamie and all at GRS are just the most amazing people.

But there’s more, read on...

Yesterday the day started with a trip to the impressive GRS Motor Groups headquarters where Steve and Jamie met us and took around the courtyard, looking at all the Vehicles. Steve, said what do you want, a big one, small one, or an estate... what do you need? We looked around and decided that we did not need a really big van, and we chose a Brand new, white Berlingo Van. All settled, not quite! Steve turned to me and said, take a car as well, and before we could even comprehend and process such generosity, William, with a tear in his eye, was choosing the colour of a brand-new Kia Picanto car. Of course, it had to be black, HP and his signature colour. That was yesterday.

Today, we went back over to GRS, and picked up both vehicles, valeted and immaculate. We plan to get them all liveried up in Homeless Pembrokeshire style and panache, but that’s another story for another day.

We cannot thank Steve and all at GRS Motor Group enough for their support. Support which, quite frankly allows Homeless Pembrokeshire to not just impact lives, but in some circumstances change them. Thanks Steve and GRS.   GRS Logo
